Kaleshwaram repairs get a November target, not a tender
Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy says work may begin by mid-November, but the public record still lacks an approved design, tender or contractor.
The government has set a mid-November target for Kaleshwaram barrage repairs, while key project documents remain unavailable.
Telangana has a mid-November target for rehabilitating the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages, but the paperwork has not yet caught up with the announcement. Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the work may begin by mid-November and finish before the 2027 monsoon, subject to technical clearances and preparatory work. Earlier reporting quoted him saying the start could slip to the end of November or the first week of December. The calendar, it appears, is already being rehabilitated.
The Union water-resources department’s 2024–25 annual report records National Dam Safety Authority inspections and a committee study of all three barrages. Telangana government releases in April said officials were preparing an action plan and restoration approach in line with NDSA recommendations. But no publicly available document cited in the research confirms final technical approval, a tender, a contractor, the cost or a binding work schedule. The reported repair measures — including grouting, new cutoff walls and extended stilling basins — also remain attributed proposals, not a published final design.
Telangana is at least trying to put the structures back into service through a safety-led process. The Congress government’s November promise now needs something less ceremonial: an approved design and work order.
