Flash floods in Kamareddy and Medak blocked highways and submerged railway sections on August 27, disrupting travel between Hyderabad and the north of the state, according to multiple reports and official data. IMD logged 41 cm in Kamareddy in the 24 hours to 8.30 am on August 28; several mandals recorded 30 cm-plus. The NRSC’s flood map the same evening showed widespread inundation pockets across both districts.
Roads went under at NH‑44 near Medak and on the Medak–Yellareddy stretch, with water flowing over carriageways, while floodwater crossed railway tracks on the Bhiknur–Talmadla and Akanapet–Medak sections. South Central Railway cancelled, partially cancelled and diverted trains in the Hyderabad Division as a result, per SCR-linked notices and local reports.
The state government said 504 people had been rescued by SDRF and Fire Services in Kamareddy and Medak. Separate reports describe hostel evacuations and strandings; a control room was set up at the Secretariat. A government release said the Chief Minister conducted an aerial survey on August 28, reviewed relief and ordered detailed damage reports.
Restoration was reported to be underway on NH‑44 and affected rail stretches through August 30, with services between Kamareddy and Nizamabad resuming after three days, per subsequent coverage. The precise district-wise damage and a verified rescue ledger were not yet published at the time the state tallied rescues — a familiar gap the Congress-led state government should close with documents, not flyovers.
