Suruchi Inder Singh and Kamaljeet won India’s first shooting gold at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, taking the 10m air pistol mixed-team title on September 25. The pair had topped qualification with 587 points and 29 inner tens. They were not the original combination: Kedarling Balakrishna Uchaganve was initially listed with Suruchi, before Kamaljeet replaced him after the men’s qualification. Kamaljeet had scored 580 for ninth; Kedarling scored 568 for 35th, according to India Today. The NRAI gets the credit for the change. It also gets the reminder that the first plan did not win the medal.
Both shooters had missed their individual finals. Suruchi finished 26th in women’s qualification, while Kamaljeet missed the men’s final by one point. Suruchi told the Times of India she pressed the “reset button” after the individual event. The reset produced 484.6 points and gold. Claims that the score was an Asian or Games record remain media-reported, not confirmed here by an official result sheet.
