MKLI gets another deadline, still no tender
The Telangana government has directed officials to invite tenders for Phase 2 of the Makthal–Narayanpet–Kodangal lift irrigation project. The tender notice itself remains absent from the available record.
The project has new target dates, but the Phase 2 tender notice remains unavailable.
The Telangana government has directed officials to invite tenders for Phase 2 of the Makthal–Narayanpet–Kodangal Lift Irrigation Project, while officials have set December 2027 for Phase 1 and October 2028 for Phase 2. The dates were conveyed at a September 2026 review chaired by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. The tender notice, however, has not appeared in the material reviewed.
The project received administrative sanction of Rs 2,945 crore in the Telangana government’s Socio-Economic Outlook 2024 and is intended to irrigate 25,783 acres in Makthal, 20,472 acres in Narayanpet and 53,745 acres in Kodangal, besides supplying 0.385 TMC of drinking water. In July, the government had already directed officials to complete land acquisition and initiate tendering. September brought the same paperwork a louder deadline.
Earlier completion promises included two years in February 2024, the next two years in December 2025, three years in February 2026 and 18 months in May 2026. Those may refer to different scopes, but the calendar has been doing more work than the tender file. The Congress government now has targets; Telangana still needs the published tender, current cost, land-acquisition figures and physical-progress data.
