PRLIS: Centre says ‘not under consideration’
Parliament’s own record has the BJP-led Centre telling Telangana to wait on Palamuru–Rangareddy — appraisal halted as Krishna issues are “sub judice”, DPR sent back in December 2024.
The PRLIS proposal was returned while its appraisal remains on hold.
The BJP-led Union government has put Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme off the national-project table. In a Rajya Sabha answer on 10 March 2025, the Ministry of Jal Shakti said PRLIS is “not under consideration for granting National Project Status”. According to the same answer, Telangana’s DPR went to the Central Water Commission in September 2022 and came back in December 2024.
The Centre’s reasoning is procedural on paper: because PRLIS uses Krishna water and inter-state aspects sit with the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II, the matter is “now sub-judice” and CWC’s techno-economic appraisal “cannot be carried out”. A Lok Sabha reply on 27 March 2025 repeats it, word for word.
What the BJP-led Centre has not done is tell Telangana when appraisal will resume, what precise KWDT-II point blocks even opening the file, or whether any bridge funding is available while it waits. Telangana asked for national status; Delhi returned the proposal and parked the process. The paperwork moved — only in the opposite direction.
