Rashmika Mandanna will play Carnatic vocalist MS Subbulakshmi in MS – A Legacy On Screen, Geetha Arts has announced. The production banner named Rashmika as the star, Gowtam Tinnanuri as director and Anirudh Ravichander as composer. Rockline Entertainment and Bunny Vas Works are also attached to the project.

The announcement ends the casting fog around a film that had previously been described only in reports. An earlier report said Rashmika was “reportedly taking over” the role and that confirmation was expected at the launch. Geetha Arts has now supplied the confirmation itself, which is generally how announcements are meant to work.

The launch was announced for September 16 at The Music Academy in Chennai, marking Subbulakshmi’s 110th birth anniversary, with Kamal Haasan named chief guest. The available material does not establish the film’s release date, production start, full cast, budget or whether Rashmika will sing or lip-sync. The announcement has done its part; the remaining details are still waiting for their own press release.
