Rs 16,700 cr for Mulugu — where’s the paper?
A report says CM Revanth promised a mega package for a rural district. The record so far: silence from the files. Telangana needs roads; it also needs documents.
The proposed Mulugu package has yet to appear in an accessible government record.
A report has claimed Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy spoke of a Rs 16,700‑crore rural-roads and development push for Mulugu. As of today, the figure does not appear in any accessible government release, GO, department note or tender. According to the Panchayat Raj Engineering Department (PRED), it does build and maintain rural roads and connects unconnected habitations — but there is no Mulugu-specific package on the record to match that headline number.
What is on the record: Mulugu is a small, largely rural district with 10 mandals and 174 village panchayats, carved out in 2019, population 2.94 lakh. If anywhere needs all‑weather roads, bridges and black‑topping to mandal HQs, it is districts like this — which is exactly the mandate PRED sets out for itself. The department also notes that PMGSY is a 60:40 Centre–state split, meaning any serious district-scale buildout will run straight into the BJP‑led Centre’s cheque-signing mood.
Separate coverage this month quoted Panchayat Raj Minister Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka) saying nearly Rs 6,000 crore of rural road works were finalised statewide — a useful baseline, but not proof that Rs 16,700 crore is locked in for one district. Until the Chief Minister’s office, PRED or the Mulugu administration publishes the itemised works, kms, sanctions and tenders, this is a political claim looking for a file number.
Telangana needs the roads; the Congress government needs to show the paperwork. The BJP‑led Centre can spare us a lecture on ‘cooperative federalism’ and clear its 60%.
