A seven-storey under-construction building collapsed around 1 p.m. on August 22 in Anjaiah Nagar, in Hyderabad’s IT corridor, killing two workers, according to multiple reports citing police and rescue officials. Rescue teams from the Telangana Fire Department used a Victim Location Camera to search the debris and recovered two bodies. Adjacent structures were damaged and at least one resident was injured, per published accounts. The larger “eleven injured” figure doing the rounds is not supported by any official list so far.
Cyberabad Municipal Commissioner G. Srijana has “ordered” the suspension of U. Santosh Kumar, identified in reports as the Madhapur town-planning officer, pending inquiry. The suspension order itself has not been published. Police have reportedly registered a case against persons linked to the construction; names differ across reports, and the FIR number, sections and full accused list have not been released in the public domain.
HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath said “we will make sure all these structures are cleared,” a promise that now needs to show up as demolitions on file, not just on camera.
