Singur plan: 40 MGD, pending reality
HMWSSB is preparing alternatives for a possible reduction in Hyderabad’s Singur supplies. The water is not being diverted yet.

Hyderabad’s water board is preparing for a possible reduction in Singur supplies if rainfall remains inadequate. HMWSSB Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy has directed officials to draw up alternatives, according to a press release reported by Telangana Today.
The plan includes examining an additional 40 million gallons per day through Mission Bhagiratha, identifying areas that may receive less Singur water and considering temporary vertical treatment plants along the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar conduit routes. Officials were also told to monitor reservoir levels, supply timings, low-pressure complaints and delays daily.
The important verb is “prepare”. The 40 MGD is not documented as being diverted, and the treatment plants are only proposed “if necessary”. A June report said pipeline work linked to the additional 40 MGD was pending. HMWSSB has not publicly disclosed current Singur storage, affected neighbourhoods or an implementation date. Hyderabad has a contingency plan; it does not yet have the water described in it. Mission accomplished remains a little early.
