Six cities, 27 sports, readiness still pending

Telangana is scheduled to host the 2026 Khelo India Youth Games across Hyderabad, Hanamkonda, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar and Khammam from December 11 to 22. The Sports Authority of Telangana says the plan covers more than 6,050 athletes and 27 sports, with the Games meant for athletes below 18.
The Union sports ministry has confirmed Telangana as host. The state has also formed organising, executive and specialised committees, and Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju has reviewed preparations with Sports Secretary Jayesh Ranjan. So far, the paperwork has moved faster than the public readiness record.
An August account said officials were still working on venues, infrastructure, accommodation and other facilities for athletes and officials. The material reviewed does not establish that venues, transport, medical services, safety arrangements or accommodation are complete. It also does not provide the final sport-wise venue list, final entries or a confirmed budget. Telangana has the event dates and the ambition. The Congress-led Centre’s support is on record; the actual operational inventory is still waiting for its own release.
