Six passengers were killed when a private bus on the Hyderabad–Eluru route rammed a lorry on NH‑65 near Dorakunta on the outskirts of Kodad, Suryapet district, early Wednesday, 26 August. Reports attribute the death toll to district police; five of the victims were women, according to multiple accounts.

Police accounts reported by national and Telugu media say the lorry had hit the median while overtaking and then came to a halt with part of it on the divider and part on the carriageway. The bus struck its rear minutes later. The precise cause is under investigation.

Injury numbers remain inconsistent across early reports: some say around 10–12 injured with two critical, others put the figure at 14 or 20. The bus was carrying about 42 passengers, and the injured were shifted to the government hospital in Kodad and to facilities in Suryapet and Vijayawada.

Rescue teams pulled out passengers trapped in the mangled front of the bus. Suryapet police said a case has been registered and further inquiry is underway. The identities of all the deceased had not been officially released at the time of writing.
