A private travel bus heading from Hyderabad towards Eluru crashed into a container truck near Dorakunta in Kodad mandal, Suryapet district, in the early hours of Wednesday. Multiple reports put the scene on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway (NH-65). Six deaths have been reported by several outlets; police are yet to issue an official casualty list.
According to local reports, the bus hit the container from behind. One national report, citing police, says the truck may have already struck a divider before the bus collided with it. Those accounts are not yet reconciled.
Injury numbers also differ across reports: at least 20 to 23 injured in local coverage, and “around a dozen” in a police-attributed national dispatch. Several injured passengers were shifted to the Kodad government hospital, according to local reports. The precise toll, names of the deceased and a confirmed list of the injured have not been published by authorities at the time of writing.
Kodad police and emergency services responded at the site, rescued passengers and moved the injured to hospitals, according to the reports. An official statement on the cause, vehicle details, and whether the container was stationary or had proper markings is awaited.
