An unauthorised G+6 building with a penthouse collapsed in Anjaiah Nagar, Gachibowli, on August 22, killing workers Umesh Kare, 34, and Mopath, 42. Debris damaged three bedrooms in the adjoining Jaya Darshini Apartments and injured a neighbouring resident, Ramana Reddy, according to reports. Rescue teams from HYDRAA, the NDRF, fire services and police responded.
Cyberabad Municipal Commissioner G. Srijana said officials had received a complaint about the building roughly six months earlier, stopped the work and seized the structure. Construction later resumed without CMC clearance, shortly before the collapse. The reported timelines differ on whether work restarted one day or three to four days before the incident. The civic body suspended town-planning officer U. Santosh Kumar and sought criminal action against owners identified in reports as Farheen Siddiq and Md Sajid. The alleged use of poor materials and the exact cause of the collapse remain unconfirmed without a technical report.
