Subbulakshmi biopic launches; 2027 remains a maybe
Rashmika Mandanna leads M.S.: A Legacy on Screen, launched in Chennai with Kamal Haasan. The exact release date is still somewhere beyond the clapboard.
The biopic M.S.: A Legacy on Screen was launched in Chennai, with release timing described only as post-August 2027.
The M.S. Subbulakshmi biopic has formally launched in Chennai, with Kamal Haasan inaugurating the event and giving the clap for the first scene featuring Rashmika Mandanna. The film is titled M.S.: A Legacy on Screen — a title that has arrived before the release date, as titles tend to do.
Mandanna is attached to play Subbulakshmi, with Gowtam Tinnanuri directing and Anirudh Ravichander composing. Allu Aravind, Rockline Venkatesh and Bunny Vas are the producers. The launch material says the project has family cooperation and that rights were secured from Subbulakshmi’s family; the underlying agreement has not been made public.
Tinnanuri said the team had spent a year researching the subject and wanted to portray more than the musician’s public achievements. Those are the filmmakers’ stated intentions, not evidence of the finished film. Aravind told IANS that audiences could expect the film “anytime post August 2027”. No fixed release date, complete cast, budget, shooting schedule, archival-audio plan or language-wise release plan has been announced. The film has launched. The details are still waiting for their own launch.
