Members of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi protested at Tank Bund on September 21 against restrictions on Ganesh idol immersion, after finding iron barricades and flex banners along the stretch, according to multiple reports. Protesters tried to remove barricades installed by the GHMC and Hyderabad City Police; police intervened when some attempted to unbolt them from the lake railings. (Telangana Today)
The Hyderabad Police and GHMC have warned against immersion at Tank Bund, with current reporting referring to restrictions on the upper Tank Bund side and, in particular, Plaster of Paris idols. The operative 2026 order has not been published in the material reviewed. An earlier Telangana Police conditions document says POP idols cannot be immersed in Hussain Sagar or other natural water bodies and refers to 2022 High Court directions. Reports also say BGUS representatives, including general secretary Ravinuthala Shashidhar, were detained and taken to police stations. No police detention record, FIR or official confirmation was found. BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar condemned what he called the detentions and sought their release.
