Tejaswin Shankar has reportedly won India’s first Commonwealth Games decathlon medal — a bronze with 7,976 points in Glasgow — finishing behind Grenada’s Lindon Victor (8,096) and Canada’s Damian Warner (8,036), according to a report updated past midnight IST. According to NDTV, it is a historic first for India in the decathlon and comes days after he withdrew from the high jump with a recurring knee problem.
Two cautions before the victory parade. The Indian Olympic Association’s Glasgow 2026 page, updated July 31, 8:24 pm, did not list Shankar among India’s medallists when checked. And the report carrying the result is timestamped August 1 IST while calling it a Friday finish — a timing wobble we’d like the official results to settle.
What is not in doubt: Shankar is India’s decathlon national record holder at 8,057 points, per World Athletics, and already a CWG medallist in high jump (Birmingham 2022) and an Asian Games silver medallist in decathlon. The medal claim looks right; the official line just hasn’t caught up on the IOA page yet. We’ll save the chest-thumping for when the organisers publish the line everyone has to accept.
