Telangana bans analogue paneer for one year
TG SAFE says the prohibition began on September 10. The Gazette text remains the missing ingredient.
Telangana’s reported one-year ban on analogue paneer awaits the primary Gazette order.
Telangana authorities have announced a one-year prohibition on the manufacture, processing, packing, storage, distribution and sale of non-dairy, artificial or analogue paneer across the state, effective September 10, 2026. The order is attributed to the Commissioner of Food Safety under Section 30(2)(a) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and is reportedly listed as Gazette No. 807. The primary order, however, has not been independently retrieved from the state’s e-Gazette portal. Even paneer now comes with paperwork.
The News Minute reported that TG SAFE Commissioner Avinash Mohanty issued the order and that products sold as paneer, or under another name, are covered. It also reported an exclusion for products standardised under FSSAI rules and legally sold under their prescribed names and conditions. FSSAI guidance recognises dairy analogues as a category but requires accurate labelling; it says a cheese analogue cannot be sold as paneer.
Before the ban, TG SAFE and H-FAST reportedly inspected 14 establishments and seized about one tonne of palm oil, 476 kg of glycerol monostearate, 1,760 packs of cooking cream and 150 kg of skimmed milk powder. Those figures come from one published report and have not been independently verified. The Gazette is still doing the job the announcement was supposed to do.
