Telangana has reportedly ordered a unified bureau for traffic management, road-crash response and road and rail safety. The paperwork, however, is still playing hide-and-seek.
Reports published on September 24 and 25 say the state government issued G.O.Ms.No.135 establishing the Telangana Traffic Management, Road and Rail Safety Bureau, or TG-TMARS, as a specialised police wing headquartered in Hyderabad with statewide jurisdiction. It is reportedly to bring traffic enforcement, highway patrol and crash investigation under one framework, with Traffic and Road and Rail Safety wings.
The reported structure includes a Road Crash Response Officer at every police station, highway patrol units on stretches exceeding 50 km, and a proposed Traffic Management Fund receiving 40% of police compounding fees and Motor Vehicles Act fines. These details remain dependent on secondary reports. The order, its organisational chart, budget and the name of the bureau’s director were not available on the official government or police websites reviewed. Six months have reportedly been allowed for operationalisation. The Congress government has at least left Telangana a deadline; the public has yet to receive the document.
