Telangana’s ‘normal’ monsoon left 18 districts short
The state stayed within the statistical normal band, while district-level rainfall and storage told a less tidy story.
The state’s monsoon total fell within the statistical normal category, even as 18 districts were reported deficient.
Telangana’s southwest monsoon was classified as “normal” after receiving a reported 615.5 mm of rain against a 740.6 mm normal — a 17% shortfall. The same report said 18 of the state’s 33 districts recorded deficient rainfall. Normal, in this case, is a statistical category, not a promise that every district got its share.
The reported deficient districts include Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Khammam, Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar, Vikarabad and Narayanpet. The district-wise final table was not available in the material reviewed, so the list remains reported rather than independently verified from a primary government bulletin.
Telangana’s official dashboards show the state’s water position on nearby dates. On September 29, reservoirs held 521.84 TMC, or 49.26% of 1,059.3 TMC capacity. Minor-irrigation tanks held 94.3 TMC, or 37.16% of 253.8 TMC capacity, on September 27. The state DES dashboard recorded 615.3 mm against a 731 mm normal on September 28, a 16% deviation, also marked “Normal”. The rain had a category. The districts had the consequences.
