Tolichowki SI’s Rs 10,000 shortcut ends in ACB trap
The Telangana ACB arrested R. Pandu Naik after alleging he accepted money over a family dispute and promised police favours.
The ACB says a Rs 10,000 payment was accepted at Tolichowki Police Station before the trap was sprung.
The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Tolichowki Police Station Sub-Inspector R. Pandu Naik on September 1 after alleging that he accepted a Rs 10,000 bribe in an ACB trap. The Hyderabad Police station page lists Naik as the Sector-4 SI.
According to reports citing the ACB, Naik allegedly sought the money to avoid registering a case against the complainant, settle a family dispute and prevent seizure of the complainant’s passport. The tainted money was later recovered from his possession, Telangana Today reported, citing officials. The dispute was reportedly linked to the Golconda–Jamalikunta area.
Reports said Naik was arrested and was being produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases at Nampally. The case remains under investigation. The ACB case number, legal sections, exact trap details, final remand status and any suspension order were not available in the material consulted. No public response from Naik or Hyderabad Police to the allegations was found.
The allegation is not a conviction. It is, however, another instance in which the ACB says a public service came with a private price tag.
