vivo has launched the T5 5G as a mid-range superhero, which is ambitious branding for a phone whose biggest superpower is refusing to die before bedtime. Starting at ₹34,999 for the 6GB/128GB model, it brings a 6.83-inch 1.5K curved AMOLED display, 144Hz refresh rate, Dimensity 7500 Turbo chipset, 7,050mAh battery, 50MP Sony OIS main camera, IP68/IP69 protection and five years of security updates. That is an impressive specification sheet, though vivo has clearly mistaken quantity for a personality.

The display is the real star. It is sharp, bright and smooth, with testing broadly backing vivo’s brightness claims. The 144Hz refresh rate makes scrolling pleasingly fluid, although at this price it is becoming less a miracle and more a box manufacturers tick before moving on to the next adjective.

The battery, thankfully, is not brochure fiction. Reviews suggest around eight hours of screen-on time in heavy use and up to two days with lighter usage. The 7,050mAh cell delivers exactly what the phone promises: endurance that makes battery anxiety seem like a marketing condition invented by charger companies. Better still, the T5 remains relatively slim at 7.99mm and around 199g, rather than turning into a portable power bank with a SIM slot.

Performance is competent rather than transformational. Everyday apps run smoothly and the Dimensity 7500 Turbo posts respectable benchmark numbers, but gaming is capped at 60fps in testing. That makes the 144Hz panel feel like installing racing stripes on a vehicle with a speed limiter. It looks fast. It is not necessarily interested in proving it.

The camera system is where the flagship costume begins to fray. The 50MP Sony main camera with OIS is capable in daylight, but the 8MP ultrawide is the usual budget afterthought: technically invited, practically underqualified. Low-light detail drops sharply, and the overall setup is better described as dependable than versatile. The 4K recording claims sound grand, but the surrounding hardware is not about to make filmmakers abandon their equipment.

Charging is another awkward compromise. A huge battery paired with 44W charging takes roughly 90 minutes for a full refill in testing. That is reasonable for battery longevity, but not especially quick in 2026. vivo has built a long-distance runner and then asked it to wait patiently at the charging station.

The base model’s 6GB RAM and 128GB storage also look miserly at ₹34,999. The higher-memory variants solve that problem, naturally, by charging more. Smartphone brands have discovered that storage is not merely storage; it is a toll booth. There is bloatware too, because apparently a clean installation would have made the phone insufficiently premium.

Then comes the claim of a 233 per cent improvement in on-device AI computing. It is based on controlled testing with a specific model, which means it is technically meaningful and practically theatrical. Unless your daily routine involves running a local language model while watching HDR video in direct sunlight, the number is mostly AI-flavoured confetti.

The broader reception is fair: the T5 5G is an easy recommendation for buyers who prioritise battery life, display quality and durability. It is not a gaming monster, camera champion or charging-speed leader. At this price, the base storage and slower charging weaken what should have been a much cleaner proposition.

The vivo T5 5G is worth buying if endurance, screen quality and protection matter most; everyone else should wait for a better deal or a more balanced rival. Buy it for the battery and display, not the AI poetry; vivo has built a very good long-distance runner and priced it like an athlete who also wins every event.
