280 TMC, no ledger: Congress gets a white-paper request

The department has been asked to publish the accounting behind the reported 280 TMC figure.
The Congress government in Telangana has a 280-TMC question waiting on its desk, and so far no ledger has been produced to answer it.
A report attributed the figure to Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. BRS leader T. Harish Rao then asked where and when Telangana used 280 TMCft of Krishna water and demanded a white paper. He also claimed Telangana’s utilisation was 28% in 2024–25 and 25% in 2025–26, against a reported temporary 34% share. Those figures remain political claims, not independently verified water accounts.
The official record shows why the department should publish the arithmetic. The Krishna River Management Board’s 2023–24 report records Telangana’s utilisation at 121.127 TMC and Andhra Pradesh’s at 211.790 TMC. KRMB also lists annual state water accounts among its records. But no public account in the material reviewed confirms the 280 TMC, 28% or 25% figures. The department’s own page says it collects project data and handles inter-state water allocations. It can therefore release the dates, projects, releases and definition of “utilised”. Until then, the white paper is doing more work than the ledger.
