A ₹500 special show for Nani-starrer The Paradise has run into a Telangana High Court question: why did the government wait until three days before release to permit it?
The Home Department’s reported Memo No. 21/HOME-GEN2/2026, issued on September 20, allowed a 6.30 p.m. show on September 23 at ₹500, including GST. It also permitted additional charges from September 24 to October 3: ₹48 and ₹23 at single screens, and ₹95 and ₹45 at multiplexes and special theatres. The figures were reported by multiple publications, though the memo itself is not available on an accessible official portal.
Justice N. V. Shravan Kumar reportedly questioned the absence of recorded reasons and said the late permission left “virtually no opportunity” for affected people to seek a remedy. The court reportedly observed, prima facie, that earlier directions on advance disclosure had been breached. It has not finally declared the memo illegal or ordered its withdrawal. The matter is listed for October 6, when the government is expected to file its counter-affidavit.
The state has approved the hike. The public is still waiting to read the paperwork explaining it.
