65 LMT paddy, storage still being located
Telangana has ordered preparations for a large kharif procurement season. The public record shows a plan, not yet the warehouses, working GPS fleet or upgraded centres to deliver it.
The state has prepared a procurement plan for the 2026–27 kharif season; storage and operational readiness remain unclear.
Telangana’s Civil Supplies Department is preparing for an estimated 65 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during the 2026–27 kharif procurement season, according to reports attributing the plan to departmental directions. Commissioner M. Stephen Raveendra reviewed storage preparedness and asked officials to identify godowns, defunct rice mills, industrial sheds, market facilities and function halls.
The plan also requires GPS-based tracking for paddy transport, a mobile app for surprise inspections and modernised procurement centres with moisture meters, cleaners and dryers before October. Fake procurement sheets, the department warned, would invite severe legal action. The paperwork is clearly ready for the harvest. The storage numbers are not.
The state’s existing Online Procurement Management System monitors procurement, transport and payments, while government material records GPS tracking and equipment at procurement centres. A tender listing for 17,350 GPS devices suggests hardware procurement was under way, but does not establish installation or live operation. No public district-wise storage capacity, facility list, app records, upgrade count or payment timetable was found in the material reviewed.
For now, Telangana has a readiness plan. The warehouses are still being introduced to it.
