Telugu cinema has produced another release-window thriller, this time without the inconvenience of a confirmed theatre. Filmmaker-actor Sheraz Mehdi has alleged that O Andala Rakshasi was denied a theatre in the Nizam region for its proposed re-release, and that small films are being squeezed by a few powerful industry figures.
The film, which records identify as a Telugu release directed by and starring Mehdi, opened on March 21, 2025. Reports of his press meeting at the Telugu Film Chamber reproduce his claim that “not a single theatre was given in the Nizam area” and that “small films are being crushed by four powerful individuals”. They also report allegations involving digital-content charges by Qube and UFO. Those are Mehdi’s claims, not established findings.
That distinction matters. The material available does not include theatre-wise booking records, contracts, exhibitor responses, court filings or an independent investigation.
