AP’s 421-post row gets a lathi-charge

A YSRCP protest over alleged irregularities in Andhra Pradesh’s Mega DSC-2025 sports-quota teacher recruitment turned tense outside the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh office in Vijayawada on September 21. Police had denied permission, citing prohibitory orders, traffic and Vinayaka immersion arrangements. Rival slogan-shouting followed when selected sports-quota teachers arrived to submit a representation rejecting the allegations. Police used force to disperse protesters and detained several YSRCP leaders and activists, according to published reports.

The official recruitment notification covers 421 teacher posts and says the sports-quota recruitment would be conducted without a written examination. The Andhra Pradesh government has said the process followed government orders and Supreme Court directions; selected teachers say their appointments rest on sporting achievements and valid documents.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy later alleged a TDP-backed attack and sought a CBI probe into alleged paper leaks, fake certificates and other irregularities. Those claims remain allegations: the underlying evidence, police records and CCTV have not been published in the material reviewed. The TDP’s alleged role has likewise not been independently established. Andhra’s ruling party has supplied a counter-version, but the record still mainly contains a protest, a confrontation and a great deal of political certainty arriving before the evidence.
