August was India’s biggest theatrical month of 2026 so far, according to Ormax Media. Its estimate: ₹1,768 crore in domestic gross from films released during the month. Ormax also places January–August releases at ₹9,868 crore, up 18% from the comparable period in 2025.
The figures come with a sizeable footnote. Ormax uses gross box office, assigns a film’s business to its release month and includes projected future collections for films still running. It says some numbers may be updated in its next report. In other words, the total is an estimate wearing a finished-number costume.
Hanuman Ansh led August with an estimated lifetime domestic gross of ₹360 crore, while Toxic and Irumudi were among the month’s major contributors. Ormax’s separate forecasting note says Irumudi opened at ₹14.8 crore gross against a ₹9.7 crore forecast.
The report’s top 10 included films in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada. Ormax does not identify the two Telugu titles in the accessible text, so the industry’s language scoreboard can wait for a chart that actually explains itself.
