BJP finds ₹18,000 crore in a ₹20,677-crore record
The BJP’s chargesheet says Telangana waived only ₹18,000 crore. The state’s own published figure says ₹20,677 crore. The paperwork, predictably, is still hiding.
Competing public statements cite different totals for Telangana’s farm-loan waiver scheme.
The Telangana BJP’s “1,000 Days of Betrayal” chargesheet says the Congress government waived only ₹18,000 crore against an agricultural debt burden of ₹39,500 crore. Those are BJP claims, not figures established by an audited expenditure statement or beneficiary dataset.
The state government’s public record gives a different account. Its June 2024 Cabinet statement estimated the scheme requirement at ₹31,000 crore. Official releases then recorded ₹6,035 crore transferred to 11.34 lakh farmers in July 2024, ₹12,000 crore waived in the first 12 days, and later ₹20,000 crore for 25 lakh farmers. In June 2026, the state put the figure at ₹20,677 crore for 25.35 lakh farmers.
That does not automatically settle the matter. The BJP’s ₹39,500 crore may refer to a different debt category, while the government’s ₹20,677 crore may be a reported waiver figure rather than final booked expenditure. The Congress government has not publicly explained the specific ₹39,500-crore-versus-₹18,000-crore comparison in the material reviewed. Telangana’s farmers are left with competing numbers; the parties have left the accounting to them.
