BJP’s fee-dues number comes with two totals
The protest is real. The ₹11,000-crore figure is a claim; another BJP account says ₹15,000 crore. Telangana’s ledger remains missing.
The protest has a number. The public ledger does not.
The BJP marched to Telangana’s Secretariat on September 3 demanding payment of fee-reimbursement dues. Police detained state BJP president N. Ramchander Rao, BJP Legislature Party leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy and others before later releasing them, according to reports citing the police. The BJP and ABVP said the dues were ₹11,000 crore. Another report carrying the Telangana BJP’s release put the figure at ₹15,000 crore. Even the headline number is apparently still in committee.
The dispute itself is not imaginary. Private degree and postgraduate colleges have announced protests from September 5, while earlier college representatives cited nearly ₹8,000 crore in previous-year arrears. The government had then assured releases of ₹600 crore and another ₹60 crore. In August 2026, the Congress government announced an annual ₹2,400-crore allocation for a revised system that would pay students directly in advance.
But the government’s published scheme-expenditure document lists allocations, not the unpaid balance. It does not show the current arrears, department-wise liability, amount already released or the split between the BRS and Congress periods. The Congress government has announced a mechanism; it has not published the ledger that would tell Telangana what remains. For now, the BJP has supplied two totals and the government has supplied neither.
