Cadres first, merit later?
Telangana Congress chief B. Mahesh Kumar Goud says loyal party workers — DCC and block presidents included — will get “top priority” in upcoming nominated posts, and admits cadres went three years without “due opportunities.” The BJP and TDP may pretend this is shocking; it’s just the Congress saying the quiet part out loud.
The promise is clear; the criteria and numbers are not.
The Telangana Congress has helpfully put its policy in one sentence: party first. After a Public Affairs Committee meeting in Medak on 24 August, TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud told reporters that “those who have consistently worked for the party will be given priority,” adding that DCC presidents, block Congress presidents and others will get “top priority” in upcoming nominated posts, with decisions “soon,” according to reports of the interaction.
The same accounts record Goud acknowledging cadres were “a bit disappointed” because they did not get “due opportunities” in the past three years of Congress rule. That is a political admission, not an audited ledger — there is no published count of how many posts exist, how many were filled, or what “preference” actually means. No official list of appointments or criteria has been put out by the Congress government in Telangana; the state’s government orders portal does not provide a consolidated dataset for these nominated posts.
So we have the promise — cadres to the front of the line — and the vague mea culpa — three years of thin pickings — but not the numbers to check either. The BJP and the TDP can spare the fainting couch; voters in Telangana have seen this movie. The only new thing here is that the Congress said it on camera before handing out the tickets.
