Congress answers guarantees with 22 suspensions

The Congress government in Telangana has found a remarkably efficient way to handle questions about its promises: detain the questioners first, then suspend 22 of them.
BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao and MLA T. Harish Rao were detained outside the Assembly on September 7, 2026, during a black-T-shirt protest over what the BRS called the government’s failure to fulfil its electoral guarantees. The protest slogans included “Congress failure in implementing guarantees” and “1,000 days of rule are a failure”, according to reporting by the Times of India. KTR had also challenged the government: “We are all ready for arrest. Are you ready?”
Two days later, 22 BRS MLAs, including KTR and Harish Rao, were suspended for the remainder of the monsoon session after entering the well and protesting. The government’s stated case was disruption, not the substance of the questions. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said legislators should raise issues from their seats. The Speaker approved the suspension motion moved by Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu. The Congress government has not bothered to publish the primary order clearly enough to settle the rule, wording and duration beyond the reports. For now, the official answer to accountability is 22 empty opposition seats.
