Karnataka’s Chief Electoral Officer recorded 10,796,415 electors under ASDDO categories — Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate and Others — after enumeration. The pre-revision electorate was 55,432,314; the draft roll included 44,635,975. The draft was published on August 24, with claims and objections open until the final roll is scheduled for October 27. The Congress’s B.K. Hariprasad says 10.7 million voters were removed, describing the number as roughly seven million duplicates and 3.8 million others. That breakdown has not been established against the CEO’s category-wise data. Nor does an ASDDO classification prove that every excluded elector was a current, eligible voter unlawfully deleted. Congress is entitled to challenge the scale and consequences of the exercise. It is not entitled to promote a draft-stage administrative classification as 10.7 million proven unlawful deletions. Karnataka’s Congress government now has a simpler task than producing slogans: show the names, the evidence and the final outcome. Until then, the headline is doing more work than the roll.
