Congress turns two remarks into a session-long production

Two BRS MLCs were arrested and suspended after a confrontation outside the Telangana Assembly became the Congress government’s main legislative production of the week.

Saifabad police arrested T. Madhusudhan Reddy, known as Tatha Madhu, and N. Naveen Kumar Reddy on September 8 over alleged remarks concerning Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, according to published reports. A Nampally court rejected police remand and released them on personal bonds. The court order is not available in the material reviewed, and reports differ on the bond amount.

The Assembly then asked BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao to “own responsibility for the unbecoming conduct of the members of his party” and apologise to the Speaker. The Legislative Council later suspended both MLCs for the remainder of the monsoon session, reportedly under Rule 308(2)(2). The alleged remarks themselves have not been independently established through an official transcript, FIR or court order. Neither has the BRS’s allegation that women legislators were manhandled by police.

The Congress government has kept the dispute alive while the record remains incomplete. It has not published the evidence that would settle what was said, only the punishment that followed. For now, Telangana has a suspension, an arrest and no verified transcript.
