Erravelli row: Congress finds a ritual, BRS finds a plot
A protest, turmeric water, Assembly suspensions and a probe have turned one road into Telangana politics’ latest theatre set.
Records and forensic findings remain pending in the Erravelli dispute.
The Erravelli confrontation has moved from a road to the Telangana Assembly, carrying with it competing allegations, turmeric water and a suspension order whose exact headcount remains unclear. Reports put the number of suspended BRS MLAs at either 21 or 22; the Assembly order is still needed to settle the arithmetic.
Congress and Dalit-wing workers protested near KCR’s Erravelli residence on September 8 after alleging that BRS MLC T. Madhusudan made derogatory remarks about Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. The exact words have not been established, and Madhusudan has denied the allegation. BRS workers later sprinkled turmeric water on roads near Erravelli and Varadarajpur. Congress called it a purification ritual; the BRS said images used against it were misleading or AI-generated. No independent forensic finding is available.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has ordered an inquiry led by Hyderabad Joint Commissioner of Police S. M. Vijay Kumar. Three cases were reported over the ritual, while BRS leaders alleged police mistreated women MLAs and treated Congress and BRS groups differently. Those claims also remain unverified. More than 800 police personnel were deployed around Erravelli, because apparently one farmhouse road now requires the security footprint of a small summit.
The government has ordered an inquiry. The Assembly record, FIRs and forensic assessment have not yet done the less theatrical work of settling what happened.
