Telangana’s School Education Department introduced external evaluation for Summative Assessment-I and II in government schools from Classes I to IX, according to departmental proceedings reported on August 31. Exams would remain at school level, but answer scripts would move to mandal centres for evaluation by teachers from other schools. Own-school teachers would not mark their students’ papers, and the process was to finish within three to five days.
Teachers objected. Mutyala Ravindar of the Telangana Progressive Teachers Federation said deputing teachers would affect classroom instruction; another government school teacher questioned whether evaluation centres had adequate infrastructure. The plan’s stated aim was “objectivity, transparency” and accountability. The paperwork, naturally, was less transparent about the workload.
A separate report says the department has now limited external evaluation to Class IX across all 33 districts and Class VI in nine districts after six associations met officials. But no revised government order, SCERT circular or department statement confirming that rollback was located. The original expansion is corroborated; the retreat remains a single-report claim. The department has yet to put its latest version on paper—or make the paperwork easy to find.
