Telangana’s teacher shortage meets the paperwork shortage
Government schools face reported shortages across several districts, but the documents behind the biggest numbers remain unavailable.
Government schools have reported teacher shortages, but the documents supporting the figures have not been made public.
Government schools in Telangana’s Palamuru region are facing teacher shortages, with Jogulamba Gadwal, Narayanpet and Vikarabad among the districts identified in a report. Shortages were also reported in parts of Medchal–Malkajgiri, including several mandals in Jogulamba Gadwal.
The report, citing the School Education Department, says more than 1,000 teachers are required across four districts and that 600 Urdu-medium teachers are needed statewide. It also says the department has proposed 1,600 temporary academic instructors, with recruitment dependent on Finance Department approval.
Those figures have not been backed by a publicly available district-wise vacancy statement, proposal file or Finance Department approval. Separate reporting in 2025 and 2026 described teacher shortages across Telangana, but also noted that official statewide vacancy data was unavailable. The Union government has said such data is maintained by the states.
The Education Department and Finance Department have not publicly produced the documents behind the three headline numbers. In Telangana’s government schools, even the paperwork is short-staffed.
