Fee dues, black badges: colleges plan September protest

Telangana’s private degree and PG colleges have announced a protest programme over alleged pending fee-reimbursement dues. The Telangana Private Degree and PG College Managements Association said teachers and staff would wear black badges on September 5, submit representations through Prajavani on September 7, observe a bandh on September 8 and organise student human chains on September 9. A statewide blockade and district-level relay hunger strikes are planned if the government does not respond positively, according to a report citing association president B Surya Narayana Reddy.

The Congress government in Telangana has announced a new fee-reimbursement framework of ₹2,400 crore a year from the current academic year and said colleges cannot withhold students’ certificates over unpaid fees. That is a promise about the new arrangement, not proof that earlier dues have been cleared. The association has not publicly established the amount allegedly pending in the material consulted, and the government has not publicly answered this protest schedule.

For now, the calendar is documented; the bill is not. Telangana’s colleges are being asked to wait for an accounting system that has apparently also been assigned a future tense.
