GHMC finds ₹6.92 crore, controls find nothing
The civic body says it recovered almost the entire amount linked to 78 ERP invoices. The public record still does not say who approved the payments or which controls failed.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation says it detected duplicate or excess payments totalling ₹6,92,11,434 across 78 ERP invoices and has recovered ₹6,83,75,773 linked to 74 invoices. Another ₹8,35,661, received through demand drafts for four invoices, was reportedly still awaiting credit to the GHMC General Fund. The arithmetic, at least, has reconciled itself.
According to an account attributed to GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, the matter was referred to the Vigilance Wing on July 27, 2026, and a preliminary enquiry report was submitted on August 28. GHMC said vendors were blocked in its ERP system and recovery demands were issued. It also said any criminal action would depend on a departmental enquiry or special audit establishing mala fide or criminal intent.
The available public record does not identify the invoices, vendors, approving officials, software providers or the controls that failed. It also does not establish fraud or deliberate wrongdoing. GHMC has not publicly released the preliminary Vigilance report, invoice-wise recovery schedule or proof that the remaining ₹8,35,661 has been credited. For now, the corporation has recovered the money; the explanation is still in the pending file.
