HC leaves former OSD without arrest shield

The Telangana High Court has declined interim protection from arrest for N. Sumanth, former Officer on Special Duty to minister Konda Surekha, in a Jubilee Hills police case arising from a complaint by businessman Gongidi Harikrishna. Justice J. Sreenivas Rao heard the petition on August 31 and listed it again for September 1, according to reports on the hearing.

The prosecution said Harikrishna suffered serious injuries in an alleged assault by Sumanth and associates. Reports of the complaint say the group allegedly used sticks and iron rods, threatened him and demanded Rs 10 crore. These are allegations, not findings. Sumanth’s counsel said he would cooperate with the investigation, questioned the attempt-to-murder provision and alleged the case had been engineered as part of a political conspiracy.

The case was first registered as a Zero FIR at Medipally police station on August 20 and later transferred to Jubilee Hills on jurisdictional grounds. Jubilee Hills SHO M. Muthu Yadav was reportedly suspended over alleged negligence or delay in handling the complaint. The High Court order, FIR and medical records were not publicly available in the material reviewed. For now, the court has provided neither a clean bill nor an arrest shield—just another hearing.
