HC “stay” on Kalyana Lakshmi? Show the order

A petition challenging the legal basis of Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak was heard by the Telangana High Court in July, with Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar asking the state to file its counter within four weeks and adjourning the interim application to August 5. That is what the published hearing accounts say; none report a stay.

The petition, filed by advocate Vijay Gopal, contests eight government orders underpinning the schemes and sought an interim halt. The court issued notices to senior officials from welfare and finance departments and recorded the judge’s line that if the state has excess funds it may distribute them, but primary financial obligations come first — a reminder about prioritisation, not a shutdown order.

A Reddit post later declared “High Court stays the schemes” while its own pasted case details labelled the matter PENDING and for ADMISSION with a future listing. It attached no order, quoted no stay direction, and did not explain the scope of any supposed restraint.

Meanwhile, the state’s position on record is that the schemes assist poor brides across SC, ST, BC, minority and disabled communities, and that a detailed counter would follow. The government scheme page still describes both programmes, which would be an odd look if a blanket stay existed and nobody told the departments.

So here is the settled part today: there is a live constitutional challenge and a request for an interim stay; the court sought the state’s reply and adjourned. Until someone produces an order with the word “stay” on it, a Reddit headline is not one.
