Hyderabad’s Rs 1,341-crore streetlight tender gets 10 years
Telangana has approved a decade-long maintenance project for 7,60,591 LED lights across the three Core Urban Region corporations. EESL’s alternative model remains in the paperwork fog.
The state has approved a 10-year streetlight maintenance project; the tender documents leave the system architecture unresolved.
The Telangana government has approved a Rs 1,341.60-crore project to operate and maintain 7,60,591 LED streetlights across GHMC, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation for 10 years. The project also covers Central Control and Monitoring System panels and related infrastructure, according to reports citing MA&UD approvals and the revised tender conditions.
The July 2026 revision extended the deadline for replacing LED lights from six months to two years. It also reduced the solvency requirement from Rs 180 crore to Rs 134.16 crore. The tender seeks an agency for the work; the material reviewed does not identify a selected contractor or establish that the contract has been awarded.
EESL had separately issued a 2024 procurement document covering LED streetlights in 67 Telangana urban local bodies and proposed an ILMS-based system. But the documents reviewed do not show that EESL was formally rejected, or that its proposal covered the same 7,60,591 CURE lights. Whether ILMS integration is mandatory in the new tender is also not established. The state has approved ten years of maintenance; it has not yet explained the architecture behind it.
