IDL Lake gets a festival clean-up, not a balance sheet

CMC has documented immersion-preparation contracts at Rangadhamuni Cheruvu. The larger HYDRAA desilting claims remain short on public paperwork.

At the edge of a muddy Hyderabad lake, a municipal desk holds files and equipment for festival preparations while a transparent excavator labelled restoration claim hovers over blank paperwork.

Records document immersion preparations at IDL Lake; the larger restoration claim remains unsubstantiated.

Rangadhamuni Cheruvu, or IDL Lake, in Kukatpally has been designated as a Ganesh immersion point for 2026. The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation has issued a tender worth an estimated Rs 2,97,788 to lift holy waste from the lake ahead of the festival.

A separate listing puts the estimated cost of hiring a long-boom excavator to remove idols from IDL Lake and Baby Pond at Rs 19,79,561. Temporary toilets, CCTV, lighting and drone surveillance also appear in immersion-related procurement listings. Festival preparation, in other words, has paperwork. Lake restoration is a different claim.

A September 11 report said HYDRAA was removing more than 20 feet of waste, silt, plastic and Plaster of Paris from the 72-acre lake, with work continuing around the clock before the reported September 25 immersion. But HYDRAA’s own website confirms only its general lake-restoration mandate and jurisdiction over CMC; it does not publicly confirm this specific assignment. The available records also do not establish the quantity removed, cost, contractor, disposal site or any long-term restoration plan.

The Congress government is not running this operation, so it does not get to borrow the usual national-party trick of calling a tender a transformation. The records currently show immersion management. They do not yet show a lake restored.
