MGM ceiling falls; even the casualty count wobbles

A portion of the ceiling fell in the Aarogyasri ward at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Warangal on Sunday, September 20, injuring a patient and two attendants, according to the hospital’s Resident Medical Officer, Dr M. Ashwin, and three reports. The injured were identified as Mastan, 55, Yellamma, 50, and Omkar. They were shifted to another ward and treated. The injuries were described as minor. Ashwin said the incident occurred in an old building and attributed the collapse to water seepage from the roof. The affected ward was reportedly vacated or restricted, and debris was cleared. A later account attributed to superintendent Dr K. Ramkumar Reddy, however, put the toll at six: two patients, two attendants and two sanitation workers. That account has not been matched by a casualty list, while the earlier three-person version is repeated across multiple reports. A formal engineering inspection and the ward’s current status have not been published in the material reviewed.
The ceiling may have been old. The casualty count should not be.
