Nalgonda politics discovers the locked gate

BJP and Congress groups clashed across Hyderabad and Nalgonda, while Telangana BJP chief N. Ramchander Rao was reportedly stopped from travelling to the district. The police record remains remarkably shy.

A locked iron gate with a giant padlock marked “POLICE FILE” stands between two small political delegations, while a blank police noticeboard, CCTV camera and waiting vehicles sit behind it.

Political groups traded allegations as the formal police record remained unavailable.

Politics in Telangana spent August 31 and September 1 moving from black paint in Hyderabad to confrontations in Nalgonda, with BJP and Congress workers trading allegations and police adding personnel at sensitive locations.

Youth Congress activists led by Telangana Youth Congress president Jakkidi Shiva Charan Reddy gathered outside the BJP state headquarters, where black paint was applied to the rear gate, according to a report citing the incident. BJP leaders then alleged that party workers were targeted at Congress minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy’s camp office and that BJP district president Nagam Varshith Reddy’s residence and district office were attacked. Those claims remain allegations; the available material does not establish who caused specific damage or whether anyone was injured.

Ramchander Rao was prevented from travelling to Nalgonda to meet Varshith Reddy and his family. Reports described the action as house arrest or detention, while Rao said it was his second house arrest in three days. The formal legal basis has not been published.

The BJP later complained to the DGP and sought preservation of CCTV footage, photographs and videos. No accessible police record reviewed here sets out FIR numbers, sections, arrests or the full sequence of events. Telangana’s rival parties have supplied plenty of noise. The police file is still keeping the sensible distance.
