Medicines were found on the premises of the old Community Health Centre (CHC) in Jadcherla after the facility shifted to a new 100‑bed hospital in 2023, according to a local report that carried photographs.
Harshadullah, the superintendent of Jadcherla hospital, said he had recently taken charge and that the stock appeared to be Covid‑period medicine kits left over after distribution to patients. “Many had expired,” he said, adding they should have been reported to higher authorities and removed, which officials working at the time had not done, according to his on‑record statement.
The report asserts some packs showed manufacturing dates in 2022–2023 and expiry dates up to 2025, but does not provide an itemised list, batch numbers or a valuation. It does not establish who placed the medicines where they were found, when, or whether any formal disposal process was initiated.
Under Central Pollution Control Board guidance, expired and discarded medicines are pharmaceutical waste that must be segregated and disposed of through authorised channels, not as ordinary garbage. Whether those rules were violated at Jadcherla would require a site inspection, stock records or a regulator’s notice, none of which are yet on the record.
