Pension promise, paperwork pending

What is on the record today: Telangana runs Cheyutha/Aasara pensions and budgeted Rs 14,861 crore for 2026–27, with two lakh new pensions to be added this year, per the budget analysis. The current Aasara order on record (G.O.Ms.No. 34, May 28, 2019) lists categories like old age, widows, persons with disabilities, weavers, toddy tappers, HIV-AIDS, beedi workers, single women and filaria. Thalassemia and sickle-cell are not in that list, and the live dashboard does not show them as a category yet.
What the government has not put in public view: the pension amount for these patients, whether this is a new Aasara category or routed under disability, the eligibility test (age, income, certification), the expected beneficiary count, and the formal sanction or government order. Until that order is out, August 15 reads as a target date rather than a guaranteed payout.
For patients and families who spend monthly on transfusions and chelation, a pension that actually lands is not a headline, it’s relief. The BJP-led Centre has talked thalassemia policy for years; Telangana can quietly beat it by just paying on time. The paperwork now has to catch up with the promise.
