Power claims, metering missing
Congress says ₹81,000 crore. BRS says 24 hours versus seven. TGERC says the measurement system cannot reliably settle either claim.
The electricity claims remain ahead of the accounting.
The Congress–BRS electricity argument has produced large numbers, familiar accusations and remarkably little verified accounting.
Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy is reported to have alleged that DISCOMs accumulated about ₹81,000 crore in debt during the BRS period. The supplied report provides no balance sheet, cutoff date, DISCOM-wise breakup or audit finding for that figure. His other allegations on the Chhattisgarh purchase, Bhadradri and Yadadri projects are also unverified in the available record.
BRS leader T. Harish Rao has said farmers received 24-hour supply under the BRS government and that the Congress government is providing no more than seven hours. His other reported figures range from eight to about 12 hours at particular locations. A statewide comparison is not established.
The inconvenient referee is TGERC. Its FY 2026–27 tariff order says agricultural sales are heavily unmetered and that “proper energy accounting and actual distribution losses cannot be ascertained”. It also records that the DISCOMs have not achieved 100% agricultural distribution-transformer metering.
So the first government to produce audited liabilities and feeder-wise supply records can end the argument. Until then, Congress and BRS are exchanging numbers while the meter cabinet remains mysteriously unavailable.
