Section 22A: blocked by a typo
Telangana’s own land portal admits entire survey numbers were frozen “by mistake” when only a slice was acquired. Corrections are promised; delivery is the part still missing.
A partial acquisition, a total freeze — and a correction still waiting to move.
Telangana’s official land-records system quietly says the thing out loud: in some cases a “small extent” was acquired, but the whole survey number was marked as acquired “due to mistake in entries.” The Bhu Bharati portal now offers a grievance route — submit passbook and acquisition papers to the Collector, get the survey split, show only the actual acquired extent as locked, and receive an e-passbook. That is the state’s own description of the fix, which is an admission that the problem exists. According to a published report, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy apologised for errors and said lists were pushed to sub-registrars without weeding out private patta land. The same report says Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy held a late-night review on 18 August and told Collectors to scrub every Section 22A entry and prepare an error-free list; it also lists 757 regularisation applications across four urban districts — Medchal-Malkajgiri 511, Rangareddy 146, Hyderabad 49, Sangareddy 38 — figures that appear to trace back to the minister. The law has long required more care than a blanket ban. Telangana High Court orders have held that authorities cannot block registrations on unsupported memos and must process deeds, and later recorded that grievances can lead to full or partial denotification. What is not on the record yet: a dated corrected list sent to Registration and Stamps, registration stats showing resumed activity, or the specific High Court direction the minister is quoted as citing. A larger “6,000 cases” backlog is also unverified in the material reviewed. For landowners, the actionable part today is the state’s own portal: it recognises partial-acquisition errors and spells out how to get the survey split and passbook corrected. Delivery against the Chief Minister’s review, if it happened as reported, will show up as updated lists and cleared registrations, not as quotes. Telangana’s interests are simple here: fix the data and unblock private property. The Congress-run government says it will; the record to show it has remains to be produced.
