SIR flags lakhs; draft, not deletions

Hyderabad’s “anomalies” stack up in the draft voter roll under the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision. That’s a verification queue, not a purge — and the timeline to fix errors is on the ECI’s own calendar, not a party’s slogan.

Hyderabad has a large chunk of voters marked under “anomalies” in the draft electoral roll published today as part of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR). A report put the city’s count at 6,72,678, with Bahadurpura the highest constituency by absolute numbers. Those precise figures and rankings were not posted on the CEO Telangana site or in an ECI PDF we could retrieve; they remain the report’s claim pending an official table.

Two things the record does show. One, this is the SIR draft stage — verification, not verdict. The ECI extended enumeration to 10 August, set 17 August for the draft roll, is taking claims and objections to 16 September, and targets 19 October for final rolls. Two, the CEO has said only voters who submitted SIR forms are in the draft, and those missing can use Form 6 to be restored.

Ahead of the draft, the state CEO had already said nearly 90 lakh electors statewide were flagged with discrepancies in a pre-SIR sweep — a signal that large anomaly queues were coming. None of this equals deletion, however much national parties prefer the drama. The BJP-led Centre and the Congress would rather spin the process than fund it; the numbers still live where they always did — on the ECI’s calendar and the CEO’s desk, not on a rally stage.

What Hyderabad now needs from the CEO’s office is the constituency-wise anomaly table with denominators — totals and rates, not just big absolute counts — and the category-wise breakdown. Until then, “highest” only means most in raw numbers, not worst by rate. The TDP can sit this one out; Telangana’s rolls are being revised under the ECI’s schedule, not in Amaravati’s WhatsApp groups.
