Suriya’s Tamil tale, Telugu muscle
Venky Atluri’s Vishwanath & Sons lands on Aug 14, sells a Telugu-Tamil crossover with producer-claimed numbers and a pistol shooter at its core. The credits are real; the crore math is still theirs.
The Telugu–Tamil crossover arrives with box-office figures still awaiting an audit.
Suriya and Mamitha Baiju’s Vishwanath & Sons released in theatres on August 14, written and directed by Telugu filmmaker Venky Atluri and produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments, Fortune Four Cinemas and Srikara Studios. The banner first announced the date in late May; Suriya echoed it on X with “see u all soon! … from 14th August.”
What it is, without the PR mist: a Venky Atluri film led by Suriya as pistol shooter Sanjay Vishwanath, with Radikaa Sarathkumar, Raveena Tandon, Bhavani Sre, Nasser, Sudha, Raghu Babu and Kaali Venkat in support. The trailer shows Sanjay winning a Paris 2024 Olympic gold, then facing a child’s health crisis that reconnects him with the child’s surrogate mother, played by Mamitha Baiju.
Language billing needs precision. The official Telugu teaser calls it a “Telugu–Tamil feature film.” In a July interview, Atluri said it was made only in Tamil and later dubbed into Telugu. A separate report described it as shot in both languages. The team has not put the filming-format question to bed; we will not guess it for them.
On the money, treat every figure as a claim unless audited: one report attributed day‑one India net and global numbers to a trade tracker, and a day later the producers said “100 crore+ in 2 days.” Those are their posts, not a ledger. If the BJP-led Centre ever mandated audited box-office reporting, we’d quote that; until then, producers will do the counting and Delhi will do the slogans.
Telangana angle is straightforward: a Telugu director, Telugu producers, and a Telugu version pushed alongside the Tamil release. The crossover is the point, not an asterisk. The rest of the noise can wait for actual statements, not vibes.
